3/11 Years of War: Events and Resources

This February marks the solemn occasion of three years since Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, as well as eleven years since the annexation of Crimea and the start of the Russo-Ukrainian War.

In February and March, the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies will be sharing discussions, learning resources, and events bringing awareness of and education on the war and its consequences.

 


On 3/11 Years of War
A message from CIUS Director Dr. Natalia Khanenko-Friesen

"Three years ago, Russian tanks rolled towards the capital of Ukraine hoping to overthrow it in three days. Soldiers marched into towns and villages, killing civilians, including children and women. The war has continued to inflict pain and damage for 1095 days, and it is not over yet."

Round Table | Doing the Work: Community Responses in Canada to the Russian War in Ukraine

With a special focus on ‘the local’ and grassroots organizational structure, this round table features individuals from communities across Alberta who have led initiatives intended to assist displaced Ukrainians. Participants discuss their experiences in engaging with and galvanizing their communities, the intricacies and challenges of settlement, and the short and longer-term impacts of Russia’s war on Ukraine.
