Dr. Heleen and Rod McLeod Research Competition in Hematological Cancers – Seed Grants
Purpose
The Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta (CRINA) is pleased to announce a seed grant competition for CRINA members funded by Dr. Heleen McLeod. The program will support research projects on hematological cancers, including amyloidosis research, that will, when completed, form the basis of a CIHR grant.
Funding is available for three grants of $50,000/year for 3 years ($150,000 per award)
Objective
To support emerging research in blood cancers and/or amyloidosis at the º£½ÇÉçÇø.
Eligibility and Application Criteria
- A maximum of one application per Principal Investigator (PI) or Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) will be permitted.
- The PI must hold a full-time academic appointment at the º£½ÇÉçÇø and be a member of CRINA. .
- The PI must have a demonstrated track record of research excellence.
- Grants are administered through the º£½ÇÉçÇø only.
- 5 page research proposal (single-spaced, 12 pt Times font, 1-inch margins; an additional page of references may be included, if needed)
- 0.5 page description of relevance to this competition
- 0.5 page lay abstract
- 1 page of figures (only if needed)
- 1 page budget
- 3 page abridged resumes for PI, Co-PI, and co-investigators. Similar to the requirements for Cancer Research Society, resumes should include the following sections:
- Education: list all post secondary education
- Experience: list all academic, research, and industrial experience
- Publications: list publications within the last five years and other publications relevant to this application. Include titles, all authors, and, if possible, links to publications
- Interruptions: list interruptions such as maternity leave or illness
- Funding: list all funding in the past 5 years
- List of 3 potential reviewers external to the UofA with whom there are no conflicts of interest
Budget and Period of Support
Funding requests are limited to a maximum of $50,000 per year for three years ($150,000 total).
Additional Criteria
- Reporting: Interim reports are required at the end of the first and second years, and a final report must be submitted at the end of the third year.
- Recipients must be willing to meet with the donor annually.
- Communications and acknowledgement: Funding from Dr. Heleen & Rod McLeod must be recognized in all publications, presentations, etc., resulting from this work
