Why are you video recording this area?

Your safety is our priority. Video recording helps the 海角社区 Protective Services (UAPS) respond quickly and effectively during emergencies.

How do I know if an area is video recorded?

To inform you, clear signage will be posted in all video-recorded areas.

Are there cameras in the individual offices, counselling rooms, and/or medical consult rooms?

Cameras are limited to common areas and directed only at office entrances and exits. To maintain confidentiality, individual offices, counselling rooms, and medical consult spaces are not monitored to maintain confidentiality.

Who can see the video footage?

Only authorized personnel from UAPS can view the footage and only do so when an alarm or an investigation is in progress. The footage is not monitored 24/7.

What happens if I don't want to be on video?

We understand your concern. Please call the number on the poster for the area you wish to visit, and our staff will discuss alternative arrangements to ensure your comfort while providing support.

Are you recording my conversations?

No. To protect your privacy the cameras do not record any audio.

How long do you keep the video footage?

The video footage is securely stored for a maximum of 30 days, and then deleted.

Is this legal?

Yes, video recording is conducted in accordance with Alberta's Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIP), the Health Information Act (HIA), and other relevant laws.

Does this mean you monitor staff and/or student performance?

Not at all. Video recording is strictly for security purposes and is not used to evaluate staff and/or student performance.

Can the video footage be used in court?
In some cases, the video footage may be used as evidence in legal proceedings where an incident has been reported to UAPS and the Edmonton Police Service (EPS).
What if something happens outside of camera view?

While our goal is to have comprehensive coverage, some areas may be outside the camera's view. We encourage you to report any incidents to Protective Services or our staff immediately.

I'm uncomfortable with the cameras. Can I still get help?

Absolutely. Your well-being is our priority. Let our staff know your concerns, and we'll find a way to support you while respecting your preferences.

Are the cameras recording all the time?

Yes, the cameras are recording continuously to ensure comprehensive security coverage.

Who can I talk to if I have more questions or want to express my concerns?

Our staff is available to answer any further questions or concerns you may have about video recording. You can also contact the 海角社区 Protective Services for more information (780-492-5050).
