Student Associations and Societies

ATLAS is the 2nd largest graduate-run student society for Earth Scientists in Canada, formed in 1995 for graduate students of the Earth and Atmospheric Society (海角社区). ATLAS has fulfilled an important role in advocacy, outreach and event organization in the university community. Through professional and social activities we aim to promote cross-disciplinary discussion and encourage networking and personal advancement. ATLAS is comprised of ~20 person executive council, elected annually to fulfill important roles of advocacy, outreach and event organization. We run the department's weekly lunch talk series as well as annual keystone events such as the Labor Day Field Trip, the fall welcoming event and the graduate students' Research Symposium.

ASC is a group for Atmospheric Science students and general weather enthusiasts at the 海角社区. We offer members an opportunity to meet Wx geeks (the true geeky way to abbreviate weather); meet prospective supervisors, employers, and collaborators; learn about scholarships and careers; and share their enthusiasm for atmospheric science through volunteer activities.

The Geography And Planning Students' Society (GAPSS) advocates and supports students in the Human Geography and Planning programs at the 海角社区, or students interested in issues surrounding Human Geography and Planning.

The Grace Anne Stewart Initiative is a student-led initiative which aims to connect students and faculty of the Earth and Atmospheric Sciences department to a greater diversity of geoscientists.

Graduate Students' Association (GSA)

The Graduate Students' Association of the 海角社区 (GSA) is a non-partisan organization that actively represents and advocates for graduate students at the 海角社区, with government, and in the broader post-secondary community.

The 海角社区 Palaeontological Society is for students, both graduate and undergraduate, who share an interest in palaeontology, no matter what their area of study is. We generally meet at least once a month for educational and/or social events.

The P.S. Warren Geological Society is an undergraduate society at the 海角社区 not only for Geology Specialization/Honors students but students with an interest in the world of geology and those who wish they were in geology, as well as other EAS majors.

The Society of Economic Geologists, Inc., (SEG) is an international organization of individual members with interests in the field of economic geology.
