Akshit Ayri

Brief Background: Akshit completed a BSc in Honors Neuroscience at the 海角社区 and is currently pursuing an MSc in Neuroscience within the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. He is actively engaged in neuroimaging research at 海角社区 and contributes to several student organizations. 

Interests and Vision for Social Accountability: Social accountability is a vital principle that should be embraced by communities, institutions, and systems alike. Through this platform, he hopes to collaborate with the committee to identify and address gaps in our faculty’s approach to social accountability. His goal is to promote awareness and initiatives that support underserved populations, including those from Northern regions, where he is originally from. He is particularly interested in how graduate research can be shaped to better reflect socially accountable practices. 

Hobbies: He enjoys music, playing the piano, singing, playing/singing traditional Indian music, running, biking, nature trails and reading.

Further Accomplishments: During his undergraduate years, he served as a dedicated executive of the Neuroscience Students' Association for four years, concluding his term as President. As he embarked on his MSc, he was honored to receive the Richard B. Stein Neuroscience Graduate Studentship from the Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute. In the summers, he returns to his hometown, Fort McMurray, to work with the regional Autism Society and support their Summer Camp for children with special needs.
