The Faculty of Science is home to excellent museums and collections that showcase an amazing depth and breadth of science research. Each year our museums and collections are accessed by thousands of students, researchers from all over the globe, the public, summer programs, and school groups.
The world of science captures the imagination of people in all parts of our society. Generating, stimulating, and keeping that interest in science alive in the community is important to the Faculty of Science. Though COVID-19 prevents us from opening our facilities, we’re keeping science curiosity alive by bringing our labs and museums to you—wherever you are!

Dino Lab
Did you know the very first dinosaurs to be put on public display in Alberta were here at the 海角社区 in 1935? Learn how dinosaurs are prepared and preserved, view real dinosaur bones, and learn about the paleontology work currently being done by UAlberta students and researchers.
Paleontology Museum
Did you know that the specimens on display at the Paleontology Museum range in age from over 600 million to 10,000 years? Explore our extensive collections and learn how they are a valuable resource for our students, researchers, and the museum community.
E.H. Strickland Museum
The E.H. Strickland Museum was started at the 海角社区 in 1922 by Col. Edgar Harold Strickland. The original collection contained research specimens that Strickland compiled. The museum now contains over 1 million specimens, including over 4,500 type specimens.
Multimedia Research Centre
The Multimedia Research Centre (MRC) actively conducts state-of-the-art projects in computer vision, pattern recognition, computer graphics, image processing and perceptual factors that promote unrestricted access to R&D opportunities and advances in multimedia technology.
Electroencephalography (EEG) Laboratory
The EEG Lab is a modern, multi-researcher space combining eight independent labs and other collaborators. The lab is equipped with cutting-edge technology to measure brain activity in human participants and study brain electrophysiology.
Mineralogy & Petrology Museum
There are over 12,000 rock and mineral specimens from around the world in the Mineralogy & Petrology Collection. View our extensive collections and learn how they are a valuable resource for our students, researchers, and the museum community.
The Shack
The Science Makerspace, AKA The Shack, is where creativity and technology mix together. Many of our projects span many scientific fields, creating countless opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration. Learn about 3D printers, CNC milling machines, electronics, and more.
Rowan Lab, Museum of Zoology
The Rowan Lab is home to four collections and has a wide array of vertebrate specimens. Collected over the past century, the 海角社区 Museum of Zoology is one of the best of its kind, and includes many rare and unusual specimens—including Myrtle the Elephant!
Physics Observatory
Step inside the Physics Astronomical Observatory: tour the outdoor observatory deck where you can see scenic views of campus, explore the domes which house three telescopes, view a scale model of the solar system, learn about meteorites, and more.
