Program Overview

Are you interested in gaining international work experience? As a student from the 海角社区, you have the opportunity to pursue an internship in OWL (Ostwestfalen-Lippe, Germany), Germany. In the , universities in OWL and postsecondary educational institutions in Edmonton work together to exchange and develop knowledge. The focus of the cooperation is on interdisciplinary collaboration in research, industry, and learning.

Internships are offered at Bielefeld University (on pause for 2025), Paderborn University, Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences(HSBI), OWL University of Applied Sciences and Arts or with companies in the region.

  • This program offers undergraduate and graduate students research and industry work placements in a wide variety of areas at our partner universities in Bielefeld.
  • As an intern, you will receive support from the host university to help you settle in, get acquainted with the German language and culture, and make the most of your stay in OWL.

HSBI in cooperation with OWL companies

(Apply 4-6 months prior to intended work term)

Paderborn University

(Apply by April 15 for Fall)

Bielefeld University

The next internships postings at Bielefeld University will be for 2026 (will be posted in late summer/fall 2025)


When Can I Go?

Terms Offered: Winter, Summer, Fall

Duration: Variable (normally 3-6 months but can be flexible to fit with co-op/work term schedules)

Language Requirement: English. Basic knowledge of German would be beneficial.

Fees + Costs

Placement Fee: $250 

Students are encouraged to apply for funding even if they do not have a confirmed internship to avoid missing important deadlines.
