Clara Vicera

SRP 2019, SET 2019

I grew up with a love for math and science (inspired by my dad). However, my school had few STEM opportunities outside of the classroom. I first heard of WISEST after seeing an advertisement for the 2019 SET Conference.

The SET Conference was the catalyst that brought me closer to pursuing STEM. I worked hard to earn a spot as an SRP student researcher that same year, a truly transformative experience. WISEST motivated me to stay connected with them; from volunteering at conferences, to developing projects on the Youth Council, and coordinating the SRP, I felt a stronger connection to not only WISEST, but to all the individuals I met along the way.

WISEST introduced me to a wonderful array of possibilities I could explore as a science-loving student. I pursued my BSc in Cell Biology at the 海角社区, immersing myself in various research, such as organic chemistry, neurodevelopment, and cell proliferation.

My experiences have not followed a linear trajectory. I tend to be overwhelmed with what to do next, but I am now able to embrace that life is not a set plan. Stepping outside of my comfort zone can unveil incredible paths I would not have considered otherwise. My next journey is to pursue my MSc in Paediatrics at the 海角社区. Although I don’t know what will happen afterwards, I am eager to meet new faces, make a positive impact through my work, and continue to support WISEST’s narrative-shifting programs.
