Marc Mayer, a former director of the National Gallery of Canada, has been appointed as a member of the Order of Canada, one of the country's highest honours. Also named as an officer of the order is longtime Edmonton artist and educator (and Art & Design Department emeritus) Walter Jule.

Beautiful brain: exhibit illuminates the human connections behind neuroscience
Art & Design professors Gillian Harvey and Maril猫ne Oliver were instrumental in the creation of Connections: Bringing Neuroscience and Art Together, a luminous art exhibit of 70 multimedia pieces and a few poems that has been on display at the Friends of University Hospital鈥檚 McMullen Gallery over the summer and is now available online and as a book.

An airport hangar in Edmonton has been designated a historic resource by city council, and will now be refurbished into a mixed-use space. The proposal to restore the building and create a mixed-use space was presented to council in February 2021 by Tim Antoniuk (Associate Professor, Design Studies) .

Buddhist art exhibit gives students hands-on experience with museum work

Two members of the UAlberta Art & Design community are on this year's Long List for the Eldon and Anne Foote Art Prize. Tammy Salzl is a member of Academic Teaching Staff in painting, and Blair Brennan served the department as Exhibitions & Gallery Manager from 1987鈥2018.
Through his work, Garneau hopes that his viewers come to understand that humans have a lot more in common than we think and that communication and connection should not be prevented by what we see of another person. His work Cowries, as well as one of his 2021 untitled pieces, have been added to the 海角社区鈥檚 galleries.
